I had been running 10K’s for a few years and as I hit the age of 50 I decided to run a half marathon to prove to myself that I’m still 25. But given my long work hours and hectic travel schedule, joining a running group was out of the question. I got in touch with Coach Srikanth and explained my situation and goal. Srikanth was instrumental for me running my first half marathon. Before I used to run around 5-6k for my health. During a chat with Srikanth, I had mentioned that I had a goal of running a half and full marathon once in my life, to which he said “You can. I will help you”. Being an outdoor person, I’ve always wanted to get into running but I never did as I had given excuses to myself; being a chronic arthritis patient, when I run I get a bad catch in my stomach and I’m over 40. All that changed under Coach Srikanth. I got a month’s training under him before the lockdown and continued the regimen during the lockdown with his well organised online sessions on yoga, strengthening and flexibility. I now have better breathing technique, posture and endurance. The phrase “Born to Run” is synonymous with the name “Srikanth”! If I were to start describing his approach to fitness and running, I would run out of adjectives and also my breath! I’m the perfect example of a Couch To 10K in 12 weeks. I always wanted to get into running so Coach Srikanth took me along with him for a run once and explained the different concepts involved in endurance running. I was surprised to observe the level of basic physics involved in the concepts and truly loved how easily he made me understand these concepts. So I started training slowly under his guidance and within 11 weeks, I hit my 10K goal. There’s nothing compared to the feeling of hitting it, especially after all the blood, sweat and tears.
